Bhishma Pitamah of the Jain community, Shri Deepchandji Savrajji Gardi has spent most of his life in philanthropic and social activities. He is on the boards of more than 40 social organizations. Social activities undertaken by him include the building of more than 300 schools, community health centres, a medical college, technical schools, pharmacy college, nursing college; providing self-employment in villages; the rehabilitation of destitutes; taking care of stray dogs; and saving cows from slaughter.

There is hardly any field of service, which Shri Gardi has not touched.

Shri Gardi spends several months in a year abroad with his two sons. He utilises this time for extensive programmes to motivate people there towards humanitarian causes. His motto in life is: "Every living creature, from the biggest to the smallest, has a right to peaceful existence. Secondly, whatever I believe may be right. But I must accept the truth about the beliefs of others."

    1) Construction of nearly 300 Primary, Secondary, Higher Secondary and Uttar Buniyadi schools in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Bihar, Orissa and Assam.
    2) Construction of about 20 community health centres in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar (hospitals of 10-40 beds).
    3) Construction of Chhatralaya for weaker sections.
    4) Construction of I.T.I. technical schools, polytechnics.
    5) Pharmacy college at Lakhtar, Gujarat.
    6) Upgradation of soil with assistance of Chemistry dept., Gujarat University.
    7) Social forestry and beneficial use of wastelands of gaushalas to maintain more stray cattle and better breeding.
    8) During 1985-86-87 and 1987-88 famines, nearly one lakh heads of
    Kutch in Gujarat and Rajasthan.

    11) Assistance to needy heart patients: So far nearly 2,000 patients have been helped.
